Maine Department of Transportation Ocean Gateway Pier and Ferry Terminal

Client: Maine Department of Transportation
Location: Portland, Maine
Services: Construction Management and Inspection Services
Completion Date: 2008

Keville Enterprises provided resident engineering and inspection services on behalf of MaineDOT on the new $20.5M Ocean Gateway Ferry Terminal Project in Portland, Maine. The project included: structural upgrades to an existing concrete pier; construction of a new Ferry Terminal Building; construction of a new US Customs and Immigration Facility; and street construction with associated utilities, civil and site work. The 16,000-square-foot terminal, built on pilings over the harbor, includes two floors under a sharply pitched roof punctured by two spires with horizontal arms to resemble the masts of a sailing ship. An upper floor waiting area features soaring glass walls that offer a sweeping panoramic view of Munjoy Hill, the Casco Bay islands and the South Portland waterfront. Two pedestrian ramps about 100 yards long connect the terminal with a receiving building on dry land where passengers can purchase tickets for The CAT Ferry.
